of day at leisure. Founded in the 11th century, Bergen was a scene of thriving
activity and an important trading
centre. Ancient wooden buildings and alleyways from Hanseatic times and
traditional wooden houses built on hillsides remain fine attractions today.
Bergen's charm and spectacular setting among mountains make it one of the most
popular destinations in Norway. Sightseeing excursions operate throughout the
summer months to places such as the home of Edvard Grieg and the Stave Church. Sightseeing
should include the historic harbour "Bryggen” where the Fish and Flower
Markets are located. From Bryggen you
can stroll to the Aquarium to see fish, penguins and seals and then walk the
length of Bryggen to the old fortress of Bergenhus. Visit
St. Mary's Church, the oldest building in the city, or drop into one of the
many museums and galleries. For
wonderful views of Bergen we suggest a trip to the top of Mt Flyen by funicular railway, or Mt Ulriken, or any of the seven mountains
that ring the city. Overnight: RAINBOW HOTEL ROSENKRANTZ, Rosenkrantzgaten 7, N-5003
