CHT-04 Post-symposium tour

Saturday 24 April 2004 – BERGEN

Your NORWEGIAN COASTAL VOYAGE concludes upon arrival at the Hurtigruten terminal in Bergen at approximately 2.30 p.m.  You will be transferred to your hotel.

Remainder of day at leisure. Founded in the 11th century, Bergen was a scene of thriving activity and an important trading centre. Ancient wooden buildings and alleyways from Hanseatic times and traditional wooden houses built on hillsides remain fine attractions today. Bergen's charm and spectacular setting among mountains make it one of the most popular destinations in Norway. Sightseeing excursions operate throughout the summer months to places such as the home of Edvard Grieg and the Stave Church.

Sightseeing should include the historic harbour "Bryggen” where the Fish and Flower Markets are located.  From Bryggen you can stroll to the Aquarium to see fish, penguins and seals and then walk the length of Bryggen to the old fortress of Bergenhus.

Visit St. Mary's Church, the oldest building in the city, or drop into one of the many museums and galleries.  For wonderful views of Bergen we suggest a trip to the top of Mt Flyen by funicular railway, or Mt Ulriken, or any of the seven mountains that ring the city.

Overnight:   RAINBOW HOTEL ROSENKRANTZ,  Rosenkrantzgaten 7,  N-5003  BERGEN

                              Tel:  55 30 14 00                                Fax: 55 31 14 76

Sunday 25 April - BERGEN-OSLO

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Bergen railway station 15 minutes prior to departure of your rail journey to Oslo.

Depart BERGEN on Train 62 at 7.58 a.m. or Train 602 at 10.28 a.m.

The Bergen Railway rises from the sea with a spectacular backdrop of deep blue fjords and snow-covered mountaintops.  Through verdant orchards and a landscape typical of Norway's westcoast, via Voss and Myrdal, (starting point of the Flam Railway).  Across a windswept mountain plateau and down through fertile valleys, secluded lakes, waterfalls and forests to Norway's capital city of Oslo.

Arrive OSLO at 2.52 p.m. or  5.52 p.m.

Your arrangements conclude after arrival in Oslo.  Those wishing to stay longer are invited to contact Bentours International who will be happy to make further arrangements.
